Ettore Roesler Franz was one of the first artists in the world to use the camera (a kinegrafo) to better focus on every detail of his views and portraying his characters always during their most humble functions.

In some cases, the photos were taken also as a starting point to realize the watercolors.

Most of the photos are owned by Alinari Foundation and are available in the Photolibrary of the Foundation website by typing “Roesler Franz” in the upper bar or, better, typing “REA” in “Part of image ID” field.
