On 11\u00a0May 1995, for the 150\u00b0 anniversary of the birth of Ettore Roesler Franz,\u00a0Poste Italiane<\/strong>\u00a0have released\u00a0a special philatelic cancellation, carried out\u00a0during the show organized by Studio Ottocento\u00a0in\u00a0Sala\u00a0Margana in piazza Margana in Rome, inaugurated by\u00a0Francesco Rutelli,\u00a0at the time\u00a0Mayor of Rome.<\/p>\n

– THE INSCRIPTION<\/span> <\/span>ON THE TOMB OF<\/span> <\/span>JOHN KEATS<\/span> <\/span>AND<\/span> <\/span>JOSEPH SEVERN<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]These are the tombs of John Keats, English poet, and his close friend Joseph Severn, painter and Consul of England in Rome, at the Non-Catholic Cemetery at the Pyramid in Rome. Severn was a great friend of Ettore Roesler Franz and his brother Alessandro, who was later appointed Consul of England just after him. In the back of the Tomb are engraved the names of his friends Ettore and Alessandro Roesler Franz who contributed \u2013 along with other English intellectuals \u2013 to the erection of his funerary plate.[\/vc_column_text][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”2546,2544″ img_size=”medium”][vc_column_text]In\u00a0this watercolor<\/a>\u00a0(#39\u00a0in the second set\u00a0of \u201cVanished Rome\u201d<\/a>\u00a0collection), it\u00a0is\u00a0depicted\u00a0the Non-Catholic Cemetery\u00a0with\u00a0Burial\u00a0pyramid\u00a0of Caius Cestius\u00a0on the left\u00a0(1887).\u00a0The tomb\u00a0is\u00a0visible on the left.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator border_width=”3″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1457907370942{margin-top: 10px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

– THE TOMBSTONE<\/strong><\/h3>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Going out\u00a0from\u00a0Tivoli\u00a0and\u00a0walking along viale\u00a0Arnaldi\u00a0and\u00a0thereupon\u00a0viale\u00a0Cassiano, after having passed the\u00a0Park of Villa\u00a0Braschi\u00a0on the left,\u00a0you will come across\u00a0a small\u00a0dead end\u00a0road\u00a0on the right, called\u00a0Strada<\/strong>\u00a0di Pomata<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Along this road,\u00a0since the 2nd\u00a0century BC,\u00a0Roman\u00a0villas,\u00a0as\u00a0those\u00a0of Brutus,\u00a0Cassius\u00a0and\u00a0Arcinelli’s,\u00a0were built.\u00a0Passed\u00a0the last one,\u00a0you enter in Anio Vetus track and, about\u00a0300 metres\u00a0after nr. 12, just beside the road,\u00a0there\u00a0is a plaque\u00a0dedicated to the artist<\/strong>.\u00a0There is\u00a0engraved<\/strong>:\u00a0“In\u00a0this peaceful place\u00a0Ettore Roesler Franz,\u00a0eminent\u00a0watercolorist, wanted\u00a0to remember\u00a0his\u00a0brother\u00a0Alessandro, Consul\u00a0of England.\u00a0The\u00a0inheritance of the great master\u00a0is\u00a0fulfilled\u00a0by\u00a0his only\u00a0pupil\u00a0Adolfo\u00a0Scalpelli-a.\u00a0MCMVIII\u00a0“.<\/em><\/p>\n

In fact, it was layed\u00a0in\u00a01908\u00a0(a year\u00a0after\u00a0the death of Ettore)\u00a0by his only\u00a0pupil\u00a0Adolfo\u00a0Scalpelli,\u00a0young\u00a0painter\u00a0who\u00a0inherited\u00a0by\u00a0Ettore Roesler Franz\u00a0all sketches,\u00a0drawings,\u00a0unfinished\u00a0watercolors\u00a0and his photos.\u00a0Adolfo\u00a0Scalpelli\u00a0died\u00a0in\u00a01917, just\u00a029\u00a0years old,\u00a0in the First World War.<\/p>\n

– THE STAIRCASE AND THE ROOM<\/strong><\/h3>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]In September\u00a02004\u00a0the Mayor of\u00a0Tivoli,\u00a0Marco Vincenzi<\/strong>\u00a0unveiled\u00a0“Ettore Roesler Franz<\/strong>\u00a0Staircase”<\/strong>.\u00a0The\u00a0flight of\u00a0piazza Campitelli,\u00a0adjacent to the\u00a0side entrance\u00a0of\u00a0Villa d’Este<\/strong>,\u00a0was titled\u00a0in the name\u00a0of the artist,\u00a0as a reminder\u00a0of the first\u00a0Centenary of the\u00a0ordinary\u00a0citizenship\u00a0of the town.\u00a0The ceremony was held\u00a0in the apartment of\u00a0the\u00a0Cardinal\u00a0at the conclusion\u00a0of the great\u00a0exhibition\u00a0of Villa d’Este\u00a0of\u00a02004.<\/p>\n
